This 2024 Lunar New Year marks the start of the Year of the Wood Dragon and if you believe in the metaphysics behind it all - it will be a year that’s fiery, chaotic, dramatic, and well… like a dragon. 🐲

If you didn’t know, dragons are confident, charismatic, powerful, and take pleasure in conquering challenges. They live for transformations.

You might already be feeling it, there's change and transformation brewing, a feeling of a reckoning coming. I’m seeing it in the fights for social justice and basic human rights, the changes in the economy, and local and global politics, especially over the last few years. Those who have been silenced and suppressed for a long time are speaking up louder and finding more voices to join theirs.

All of this momentum over the last few years had me thinking about what I wanted to do career-wise. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always thought it would be fun to open a bed and breakfast. After I fell in love with surfing, it became a surf bed and breakfast and really more of a joke than anything else. However I could never shake that, “but it would be cool to own my own business” thought.

That thought gradually grew a voice amidst all the momentum over the last few years. It was asking me:

“How do I continue to live my values of being curious, always learning, and being helpful to others in action? How do I align my career with my values?”

And this was how victoria yang consulting was born. I have this vision that companies will succeed by building cultures that are centered on humanity and I want to create and build inclusive and equitable people functions to help them do that. There is so much about starting and running one’s own business that will be new to me. I know it’ll come with a lot of challenges, fears to overcome, partnerships to be made and a whole lot of impact to be made!

So in this Year of the Wood Dragon 🐉, I’m embracing this transformation, however chaotic and uncomfortable it may be, and preparing myself to be open to the learnings 2024 will bring! Happy Lunar New Year everyone!
